Film Narrative- You've Got Mail

Main Plot:

- A man and a woman meet in a chat room and exchange emails.

-They email eachother everyday without their partners knowing.

-But they do not discuss "details" (meaning private information about themselves).

-They don't realise they pass each other in the street everyday.

-He offers her life advice and helps her through everything not realising who she is.

-They both split up with there partners later on in the film

as they realise they have fallen in love with there email pen pals.

-They finally decide to meet each other at the end.

Second Plot:

- The woman owns a childrens bookshop handed down from her mother.

- The man is a big business man and is opening a large superstore bookshop around the corner

from the womans bookstore.

-The man goes into the childrens bookstore with the kids he is looking after

and gets to know the woman but doesnt tell her, hes her competition.

-She finds out that the man that came into her bookshop owns the large store that is

putting her out of business, and they become business rivals.

-The woman has to close her store as the large store has run her out of business completly.

How the two plots interweve:

-Even though they have met in her bookstore and became enemys they still continue

to email eachother without knowing that they actually know each other.

- Small things and topics start to match from the emails to the conversations

 the man and woman have when they see each other.

- They decide to meet one day for a coffee and he waits and sees her, finding out that the woman hes fallen in love with through email penpals is also his biggest enemy,

but he does not tell her.

-He continues to email her as the mystery man, and meeting up with her as the enemy

to make up for what hes done to her business and they become friends.

- He  then meets her as her friend during the day and emails her as the mystery

man telling her to meet him in the afternoon.

-She meets him in the afternoon and realises that he was the mystery man and the enemy all along

and they fall inlove.
